Cameron’s One-Hitter Caps Off Series Win for Royals in Anaheim

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Left-hander Noah Cameron nearly etched his name into the history books on Sunday afternoon, tossing a dominant one-hit complete game to lead the Kansas City Royals to a 3-0 victory over the Los Angeles Angels, securing a series victory at Angel Stadium.

Cameron (7-8) retired his first 15 batters in order before issuing a walk in the sixth. He held a no-hitter intact until the seventh inning, when Vaughn Grissom dropped a bloop single into the field after a lead-off strikeout of Mike Trout. Unfazed, the 27-year-old southpaw went the distance, striking out eight and throwing a career-high 115 pitches (73 strikes) for his first career complete game.

The masterclass capped off a hard-fought, three-game set between the American League clubs:

  • Game 1 (Royals 7, Angels 6): Kansas City snapped a four-game skid on Friday behind a monster night from rookie slugger Jac Caglianone, who homered and drove in five runs during a 3-for-5 performance. After the Angels took a 6-5 lead in the sixth on Josh Lowe’s solo shot, the Royals struck back with two runs in the seventh. Caglianone later scored an insurance run in the ninth following a Michael Massey RBI single. Steven Cruz pitched a scoreless ninth to record his fourth save.
  • Game 2 (Angels 1, Royals 0): Los Angeles bounced back on Saturday night in a classic pitcher’s duel. Angels starter Reid Detmers (4-8) threw eight scoreless innings while striking out 11, outdueling Royals starter Randy Dobnak, who tossed 5 2/3 shutout frames. Nolan Schanuel provided the game’s sole offense in the eighth, driving home pinch-runner Jose Siri with a go-ahead single off reliever Nate Pearson (2-1). Ben Joyce closed out the ninth for his second save.

Despite the Game 2 loss, Caglianone extended his hitting streak to 13 games over the weekend, remaining one of the hottest bats in baseball.

Cameron’s masterpiece on Sunday lowered his ERA to 4.16 on the season and continued an impressive streak where he has posted a 1.19 ERA across his last 37 2/3 innings. Kansas City exits Anaheim taking two of three from the Angels.
