I grew up in the New York metropolitan area and made my way down to Miami, Florida to attend The University of Miami. After graduation, I took the show to a tiny New Jersey town where I was named Mud because of my strong coffee brew and addiction to the java.

The Hermit
Rockin’ In The Days of Confusion
Sunday Nights 6:00-7:00 PM

The early 1970s were a time of profound social and musical change, as the optimism and unity of the 1960s gave way to uncertainty following the deaths of iconic musicians, the end of the Vietnam War, and the rise of movements including Feminism, Gay Rights, and broader civil rights causes. Music was evolving too, with heavy metal, electronic rock, fusion, and art-rock joining the folk-rock and psychedelic sounds of the previous decade. During this period, progressive rock radio flourished on FM stations, where DJs were often driven more by their passion for music than commercial interests. Inspired by the underground stations of the late 1960s, these stations featured laid-back announcing, minimal advertising, few production gimmicks, and a strong emphasis on artistic freedom and album-oriented music. As FM radio became more popular and commercially valuable, progressive rock gradually gave way to the more mainstream album-oriented rock (AOR) format that would eventually become today’s classic rock. Meanwhile, college radio became increasingly eclectic, offering jazz, blues, classical, salsa, and other non-mainstream music. Despite its relatively brief golden age from roughly 1968 to 1976, progressive rock radio introduced audiences to a remarkable variety of music, and Rockin’ in the Days of Confusion aims to bring that music back into the spotlight.
